Whitmer backs plan to appoint university boards
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer endorsed a constitutional amendment to make members of major public university boards gubernatorial appointees instead of elected. The proposal needs two-thirds legislative support by week's end to appear on the Aug. 4 primary ballot. Former governors from both parties have lobbied for the change following board controversies.
