India clears 1,742-hectare forest for Adani coal mine
India's environment ministry granted in-principle clearance to divert 1,742.6 hectares of Hasdeo-Arand forest for the Kente extension coal block, to be mined by Adani Group. The project involves felling 4.48 lakh trees and is subject to two-phase mining over 15 years, despite a 2021 recommendation against mining in the area.
