Bangsamoro holds first parliamentary elections under peace deal
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao held its first parliamentary elections for eighty seats with voter turnout exceeding 80%. The region was established under a 2014 peace deal replacing an older autonomous area, with former guerrilla leaders forming the transitional government since creation. Voting was extended to a second day in 36 precincts on Basilan Island due to suspected cheating involving pre-filled ballots.
