Fed study: Remote work, not AI, drives young grad unemployment
A New York Fed study finds remote work is the main cause of rising unemployment among recent college graduates, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the post-pandemic increase. The unemployment rate for young grads in remotable jobs rose 1 percentage point from 2017-2019 to 2022-2024, while older workers saw a slight decline. New data shows the rate for graduates under 29 averaged 3.7% between 2022 and 2025, up 20% from pre-pandemic levels.
